Tilsberk supports modern smartphones that have an active Bluetooth connection. Your smartphone must meet one of these two conditions:

Android from version 7.0

iOS from version 14.0

We check these conditions regularly for correct function. Other smartphone operating systems are not supported by Tilsberk.

The Tilsberk app will ask you for the following permissions. Please note that these permissions are necessary for a trouble-free operation.

Bluetooth

Data is transferred between the Tilsberk app and the Tilsberk module via Bluetooth. It is also possible to transfer voice prompts to your Bluetooth headset via Bluetooth.

Location data

The current (exact) location is needed for Tilsberk to show you the way and to determine the current speed.

Phone status (optional)

If you enable the phone status, the Tilsberk Head-Up Display can show you who is calling you. If you do not enable the phone status, you will not be able to see any call information on the display.

Installation

The Tilsberk Head-Up Display is compatible with a wide variety of motorcycle helmets. Important for the installation is the helmet geometry in the forehead area of the helmet. In our guide you will find more information about the installation process.

No. The Tilsberk Head-Up Display consists of a single, very slim and lightweight module, which is attached to the top of the helmet's visor cutout resp. at the forehead edge using an adapter.

"Sugru" takes around 24 to 48 hours to dry, depending on the surrounding temperature and humidity. Patience is key while waiting for it to set!

If you're looking to use the "Sugru" mouldable glue to fix your helmet adapter: "Sugru" is a Tesa product that you can find at the manufacturer's website or at numerous shops and retailers.

Should you require more "Sugru" than what's included in the package, you can easily purchase additional quantities. We made a conscious effort to use readily available mounting material that you can acquire anytime you need it.

Headset

You have to pair the headset of your motorcycle helmet with your smartphone. The head-up display will then automatically transfer the voice prompts to your headset.

With the Tilsberk Head-Up Display, you get more than just directions – it can also send voice prompts directly to your paired headset via Bluetooth Low Energy.

Whenever you have a compatible headset connected to your smartphone, the Tilsberk Head-Up Display will seamlessly utilize it for the voice prompts.

Navigation

The navigation data is provided by our partner Sygic (map basis: TomTom). Alternatively, you can display route instructions from the calimoto app. Route instructions from other providers, e.g. Google Maps, Apple Maps, may differ. Please note that you should update downloaded maps regularly.

Yes! All the maps available in the Tilsberk Head-Up Display app, along with any updates, come absolutely free of charge. No need to worry about additional costs!

Yes, this is possible! To make it happen, simply click on the three dots located to the right of the destination input field in the navigation view of the Tilsberk Head-Up Display app. From there, select the option that says: "Import GPX."

Use

You can change the display screen yourself if it is damaged. You can find this and other accessories here in the store.

The Tilsberk Head-Up Display is specifically designed for right-hand traffic and intended for use with the right eye only. Do not try to using it in front of the left eye!

The Tilsberk Head-Up Display works everywhere in the United States and in most other countries around the world. The only requirement is that your smartphone has an internet connection to plan your tour. Exception: There is currently no map material available for China, Japan and North Korea.

We have conducted several studies in which the Tilsberk Head-Up Display was used. The results show that it has no negative effect on focus in road traffic.

On the contrary, it contributes to more focus: you can always keep your eyes on the road and do not have to constantly look at the display or dashboard on your motorcycle.

You're using an iPhone, and your TILSBERK Head-Up Display keeps reconnecting, making it unusable? This issue has been resolved with firmware version 2.1.99 of the head-up display.

Here's how you update the firmware on your TILSBERK Head-Up Display:

Option 1: If you have an alternative/temporary Android device

This issue doesn't occur with a tablet or smartphone running Android. If you temporarily have access to such a device, it's the easiest way to update the firmware. Install the TILSBERK HUD App on this device, connect the HUD, and perform the firmware update. You can find this function in the TILSBERK HUD App under the "Device" tab.

Option 2: If you only have iOS devices

The issue can be temporarily suppressed by adjusting a setting on your iPhone. Open the Bluetooth settings in the System Preferences of your iPhone. In the device list, select the TILSBERK Head-Up Display and click on the small "i" in the circle on the right side of the screen. In the subsequent window, disable the "Share System Notifications" option. After that, the connection should be stable, and you can permanently eliminate the cause of the problem by updating the firmware.

Note! If you possess a TILSBERK Head-Up Display equipped with firmware version 1.x:

The issue outlined does not affect devices with firmware version 1.x! These devices are part of a production run that incorporates some alternative hardware components due to sourcing reasons. However, there's no cause for concern: the functionality of these devices is identical to those with firmware version 2.x. The mentioned Bluetooth problem does not impact devices with firmware 1.x, thanks to their unique component configuration.

We simultaneously support and update both firmware versions, 1.x and 2.x, ensuring they operate well! Owning a device with firmware version 1.x will not put you at any disadvantage.

Should you have any more inquiries regarding this matter, please feel free to reach out to our customer service team at service@tilsberk.us at any time.

To use the Tilsberk Head-Up Display, you need a motorcycle helmet, a compatible smartphone with installed Tilsberk HUD app and the Tilsberk Head-Up Display set.

Are you concerned about potential injury risks in case of an accident with the TILSBERK Head-Up Display in your helmet? Don't worry, from the very beginning, we've put a lot of thought into how we can make it as safe as possible for you to use.

The magnetic attachment of the system proves to be extremely advantageous. Depending on the situation and the forces that occur, it allows the display to detach from the adapter on the helmet. This enables the head-up display to avoid the strong pressure from the front if necessary, rather than exerting pressure on the forehead in the event of a severe frontal impact. The compact housing design with rounded edges also helps further minimize the risk of injury. Additionally, we've designed the display so that it folds away in an emergency before it can come into contact with the eyes. Not to mention, the head-up display weighs only 44 grams, making it a true lightweight.

For the complete functionality of the Tilsberk Head-Up Display, even when the smartphone screen is inactive, it is important that the app runs unrestricted in the background. Please check the following:

Android:

Ensure that the battery optimization is not active for the Tilsberk Head-Up Display app and, if available, the calimoto app. You can find this setting in your smartphone's system settings under the > Tilsberk Head-Up Display app; in the "Battery" or "Power" section. The power-saving mode of your smartphone must be deactivated.

Please note: Depending on your smartphone model, the settings may vary slightly, be named differently, or located elsewhere.

iOS:

The Tilsberk Head-Up Display app and, if available, the calimoto app, require access to location data even in the background. You can find this setting in your iPhone's system settings at the bottom of the list for the respective app. The location access must be set to "Always."

If something is reflecting in my display, what can I do to prevent it?

Highly reflective surfaces (e.g., stickers) on the tank surface may cause reflections in the display and disrupt the visual experience. If this happens, try to reduce the surface reflection (move stickers to other locations, ...).

We deliberately opted for monochrome (single-color) display overlays, as they are much more energy-efficient than multicolored ones!

As a result, you benefit from up to 12 hours of battery life and can rely on your Tilsberk Head-Up Display for a full day trip and often even longer without needing to recharge.

Additionally, this decision also has a safety aspect: We didn't want to limit your available field of view by covering it with colored images and graphics. Furthermore, the color we use for the display overlays does not occur in nature. This means you benefit from optimal visibility of the displayed information, which cannot be obstructed by similarly colored objects in the surroundings.

Visual Impairment

If you wear glasses while riding your motorcycle, you can use the head-up display without any problems as there might still be enough space for using both.

ATTENTION! The Tilsberk Head-Up Display is not suitable for anyone suffering from epilepsy. The indications on the display can trigger epileptic seizures due to light signals. It is not suitable for people with unilateral, uncorrected visual impairment. The display can further worsen the limited field of vision, preventing you from having a sufficient view of traffic. All information is displayed at a virtual distance of 10m. If you wear glasses while riding a motorcycle, this will not affect the use of the Tilsberk Head-Up Display as there might be still enough space for both glasses and the head-up display.

Security

When you use the Tilsberk Head-Up Display, no data is transferred to us. For navigation, it is necessary to transfer data to the map service provider Sygic a.s.

If you contact our service team with questions, we collect your address data and information about the problem so that we can help you as best as possible. To enable you to make the best possible use of the website and the Tilsberk online store, we collect further data. You can find more information and details in our privacy policy.

Connection

It is sufficient if you have an internet connection to plan your tour. You can download the appropriate maps so that you can navigate safely even if you don't have reception or a mobile data plan.
